Tech Companies Advance Data Science for Social Good

9/29/2020

Data is only useful if it is reliable, clean, and well organized. With a focus on helping the United Nations achieve its Sustainable Development Goals, Data Science for Social Good along with large tech companies such as Facebook, Google and Amazon are working together to create a data ecosystem that is robust and reliable.

Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) centers on critical social issues using data science, AI, and machine learning to advance positive social impact in a fair and equitable manner. Partnering with DSSG to achieve an effective holistic ecosystem, tech companies should concentrate on four keys areas:

  1. Support the hidden work that makes data science possible.
  2. Help partners build their data culture and digital strategies.
  3. Provide skilled data scientists to work directly with nonprofits.
  4. Support training for nonprofits to make responsible and ethical decisions based on data.
