National Jewish Groups Pledge Support to Transgender Youth

Transgender students are a particularly vulnerable group. They are more likely to be bullied and have higher rates of suicide than their peers. A national survey by GLSEN found that 75 percent of transgender youth feel unsafe at school, affecting their grades and attendance. Several Jewish organizations have recently come together to help change that by launching a campaign to support transgender youth.

Kavod Achshav (Dignity Now) – For the Sake of Dignity: A Campaign for Trans Youth, was started by Keshet, the leading Jewish LGBTQ education and advocacy organization in the country. In partnership with numerous other Jewish organizations, the campaign calls for Jewish community members to publicly support and protect transgender youth.

Signatories make a pledge to ensure their communities are safe and inclusive to transgender youth. The campaign provides suggestions for ways to peacefully take action and offers resources, including personal stories, statistics, and lesson plans. It concludes with the powerful affirmation that "Trans Jews Belong Here." LEARN MORE
