Hope Is Here

The sexual abuse of children can be especially challenging to talk about and a difficult concept to grasp. Experts say that 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse by the time they are 18 years old. Our communities can not live under a blanket of denial and fear. SCAN of Northern Virginia educates the community about the scope, nature, and consequences of child abuse and neglect and the importance of positive, nurturing parenting, providing direct parent education, and advocating for children in the community, the legislature, and the courts.

SCAN's Family Programs offer parents, caregivers, and families the opportunity to connect with others and know they are not alone on the journey of raising children. Through programs, workshops, and other events, they can come together to celebrate their joys and address challenges – in a safe, supportive environment where they share the experiences, resources, and encouragement that can impact families forever.

For over three decades, SCAN of Northern Virginia has been working throughout the region to develop effective prevention programming for all children and families, no matter what their circumstances. SCAN creates a community where every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing family, with the support needed to thrive today and contribute to stronger communities tomorrow.
